writing with pleasure 🌹
guest post by katerina jeng
happy sunday, juicers!
if you’ve been following along with our prompts in May, you’ll know that we’ve been unlearning what the literary institution has taught us to strive towards as writers, and developing our own creative beliefs, values, and conventions. now, let’s put our new north stars into action with some creative writing ✨
lately, i’ve been thinking about how i can have a creative practice that is both disciplined and pleasurable—how the lines between discipline and pleasure can blur, especially when we are bringing structure & commitment to something that is so liberatory, generative, and playful. and, in many ways, how creating a pleasurable creative practice is the only way to ensure it lasts a lifetime; that it is interwoven into our days as easily & seamlessly as eating or grooming.
how might you bring pleasure into your writing? well, an easy way to start is to write something that just feels damn good.

📝 This week’s writing prompt
Think of a topic or story that feels pleasurable to write about. If there’s something that feels too indulgent, self-serving, or frivolous, that’s a hint—you may want to write about it. With your new creative parameters in mind, write about this topic in whichever form flows out—whether it be a poem, flash fiction, or stream-of-consciousness.
Reply to this email to submit your writing. Submit by Saturday evening and see what everyone else wrote for the same prompt.

Pleasure is the point. Feeling good is not frivolous, it is freedom.
