Wildcard. Emphasis on wild.

Weekly writing prompt #107

Welcome to a new week Juicers,

Lately, I’ve been contemplating rule-bending and coloring outside the lines. These past few weeks, I’ve been in a tussle with that well-intentioned but trite piece of advice to write what you know.

What if we threw that out for a sec and wrote what is wild? What if a great story lies just beyond where we think a plot “should” go? Or beyond anything plumbed from the depths of explicit life experience? Or beyond what we collectively agree are the rules of punctuation, grammar, or font choice?

Of course, any of these ideas risks producing gimmicky writing. But there’s value in asking the question. And if you’ve also recently found yourself stuck with where to take a piece, this might help. If anything, take it as an excuse to play and try out this week’s prompt.

May your blank doc overfloweth,
Jamie

Weekly writing prompt: Wildcard 🃏

What might it look like to write something wild, however that may look to you? Perhaps it’s a wild plot, a wild character, wild formatting, wild verb usage. Whatever it is, go WILD.
